This is a blog about poetry

playingthekeys:

Hi my name is Aaron. I like poetry but I can understand why you may not. Perhaps it’s because in high school you were forced to memorize lines of Shakespeare, or asked to explain the significance of Robert Frost’s  “road less traveled.” Maybe you raised your hand in class once to suggest an alternative reading to that of your teacher’s, but were shot down and told that the poem had only one correct answer like something out of a math problem. Poetry has been ruined for you because along the way, someone squeezed its joy out like the air from a balloon.

I’m here to tell you that poetry is not only accessible, but that given the chance it can be incredibly enjoyable. It is my hope that through this blog, I can help remove some of the stigma that poetry has unfortunately constructed for itself. Of course there is a difference between good and bad poetry. At worst its lines read like a hallmark card, and sometimes it will reach new lows as demonstrated by ESPN columnist Rick Reilly (seriously…this may be the worst thing I have ever read). However at best poetry is as natural as the human voice and is a form of expression so distilled and pure, it puts even the best reverse osmosis triple filtered bottled spring water to shame.

I have lots of plans for the future but will get to them later. In the meantime dear reader, get to know the face of the man below. You’ll be hearing from him next time.

My awesome writer poet cousin just got a tumblr! You should totally follow him if you’re interested in poetry or really cool things (my cousin is super cool) then you should follow him! :)

31.52 - The Bed I Made by Allen Stone (A Cover with Nina!)

This is a catch up video in which my bestest friend Nina serenades us and I do awkward harmonies/function as a human metronome in the background. This is a cover of a song called The Bed I Made by Allen Stone, our absolute most favorite musician. ALSO, don’t forget to [be awesome] check out Nina’s band, Ivory Arrows. :)

Thank you for watching! :)

New vlog! Hooray. Packing and moving out is fun. :)

The Fear - Ben Howard

Still not over the greatness that is Ben Howard. So lucky to have had the chance to see him live! He played with a broken hand. This man is incredible. #benhoward #fillmore @nragonese :)

Latest vlog if you’re bored and would like to watch something for approximately 4 minutes and 19 seconds. :D

7 Random Things I felt like talking about this week. Also, salad dressing is evil and 7 Things by Miley Cyrus is the best song ever.

LENT

Fun Fact: I’m Catholic.

This means starting tomorrow until March 31 (Easter! Woohoo!) I will be giving up something — or somethings, rather — that means a lot to me. These are my plans:

  • No social networks with the exception of Sundays for half an hour (because I realized I Facebook is sometimes my primary means of communication with certain people)
  • No more shopping — unless it’s food. And by that, GROCERIES. Not going out to eat at a fancy SF restaurant (like you even do that to begin with…) or going out to get Boba or something.
  • Make more time to run, read, write, & VLOG. Cause, girl, you’ve been slackin’.
  • Be more productive.
  • Be better to yourself and your mental health and remember to breathe.

This has been a post! :)

I just wanted to write it out so that I could remember and so that you could know, even if you don’t really need to know. But that’s all.

(I have a hefty queue up on tumblr, so that’ll be posting twice a day. I swear it won’t be me cheating!)

P.S. I’m going to die without YouTube especially because the Lizzie Bennet Diaries have been getting INTENSE. I’ll just have to watch them on Sundays. And upload on Sundays. Ahhhh.

To this day, I can still sing the entire theme song. This was my favorite show.

(I always got mad because my tissue paper butterflies never looked perfect because we didn’t have the same kind of clothespins they had. Ugh)

*And a few times, I remember putting two boxes together to see if I would get an awesome playhouse like that. It never worked.

The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a
thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - that you’d thought
special, particular to you. And here it is, set down by someone else, a
person you’ve never met, maybe even someone long dead. And it is as if a
hand has come out, and taken yours.

“The best fiction uses truth”

Words of wisdom from my older cousin (he told them to me, but maybe he got them from somewhere else… or maybe he’s a genius)

I had my first “Studies in Fiction” class. I thought it was going to be us actually studying fiction. Turns out we are studying fiction… by writing it. I’ve always wanted to write creatively, but I was too nervous and I’d get scared and stop as soon as I started.

Now that my grade is on the line, I have to write now. Right now. (HA, bad pun). I’m kind of excited though.

My first assignment is to fictionalize my account of nearly dying at the Giants Victory Parade.

And I am also quite intimidated by everyone in my class because they seem to just be overall more experienced in everything (writing, reading, LIFE in general, really) but I am going to make this class my favorite class.

It kind of already is, but I also haven’t had guitar lessons yet.

This has been a post.

(And a p.s. type thing — I’m having a lot of anxiety and I don’t like it. I need to start running again.)

19.52 - Meet my Yoga instructor. Her name is Deborah.
